Regime Change II

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This is the updated rules set for the play by email (PBEM) game REGIME CHANGE II. It can also be played by mail (PBM).

As a player you take part as a character, perhaps commanding a spaceship and on the the run from the Terran Solar Federation, or possibly as an officer of the new regime, a space pirate, a smuggler, or freedom fighter. Perhaps you have to survive in the ruins of a desolated city of Old Earth, or head through uncharted space, facing unknown perils in your bid to survive while dreaming of regime change to overthrow the hated evil empire of the TSF. The variations are as wide as the expanse of space!

+++ We interrupt your program to bring you the following breaking news. The government of the Republic is under threat from dissident elements of the banned terrorist network formerly known as the Majoritists. Latest reports suggest rebels have blown up the central barracks and are attempting to storm the House of Representatives. Elements of the Republican Guard are fighting back bravely and… +++

+++ Rebels are right now in the process of taking over the central government. Data libraries and communication devices have become non-functional. The frequent sound of gunfire and explosions around the city prove the situation is both violent and serious. +++

There are star maps, environmental reports, and news of latest technological developments. You’ll give orders and perform actions as you battle against the conditions and a host of hostile elements! This is a space opera, and you’re the actors!

Each game turn the Federation News Service issues a newspaper to you, and you’ll also get updated details of your character, henchmen, possessions and current situation.

The game can be played by post or by email.

Game turns are charged at £10 each (or £12 by post), with one turn played each month.

In addition we've produced a 45-minute long Regime Change II background audio (MP3 download), also available on this website. It isn't essential for game, but great fun!

"Game turns are charged at £10 each (or £12 by post), with one turn typically every two to three weeks." (15.88 US Dollar)

o.O Seriously? That much per *turn?* This has got to be a typo of some sort, because with the plethora of free play by post and play by email games available on the internet, no one's going to pay that much (or anything at all really) *per turn* to play in a game.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
