The Battle for Ramadi

ADD TO WISHLIST >

REUTERS, 27 DECEMBER 2015
After encircling the city for weeks, the Iraqi military launched a campaign to retake it last week, and made a final push to seize the central administration complex on Sunday.

“By controlling the complex this means that we have defeated them in Ramadi,” said Sabah al-Numani, a spokesman for the force leading the fight on the government side. “The next step is to clear pockets that could exist here or there in the city.”

A U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S.-led campaign against Islamic State was unable to confirm at this point whether the militants had been cleared out of the government complex.

The Battle for Ramadi is a solitaire game that depicts the climatic seven days of the assault on this key town. You are the commander of the Iraqi Security Forces, and must capture the Government Complex to secure the political victory, but your ultimate objective is to liberate the city and its inhabitants. You have elite Counter Terrorism Service troops supported by army, police and militia units. You can also call on Coalition air assets and special forces to give you the edge. Combat is brutal and unpredictable. The city is full of IEDs, ISIS fighters, and innocent civilians.

You must plan carefully, take advantage of your freedom to deliver strikes against enemy territory at will, but also be warned that you can lose the game, even on the last turn, as your casualties mount and ISIS counterattack your exposed troops.

Does this game look good enough for effective play when printed on a black & white laser printer?

I'm sorry guys. I've missed this problem somehow. The graphic artist is off until Tuesday, but we will fix it then. Very sorry for the problems. Totally our fault.

This is an unusually poor quality production from a reputable company. The counters are not easily printed or usual. They should be in a usable pdf file. We should not have to worry about re-formatting them.

I would love the see the jpg for the counter sheets replaced with PDF's to simplify printing. Creating the counters for the Rifles series was a breeze. The jpg's for this make it much more complicated than necessary.

Hi - I printed the counters double-sided, laminated and then cut them out only to realise afterwards that the counters are all supposed to be the same size, but the counters on the different sheets provided actually print out at different sizes. Can you advise on how to get them to all print the same, without me resorting to cutting out in photoshop etc?

Oh yeah, BTW, I apologize for the map mistake. My fault. I corrected that at about 7.05 EST this morning. Everyone got an update notification and all the files are there with the game.

Hi David L. Sorry to disappoint you. How can I help? The counters are supplied in two sheets. These sheets make it obvious which are the front and the back. Hence, making it easy for people to line up. You can take it to office max and print the entire sheet and then line them up front to back. On the other hand, if you wish to print them at home divide the image in any digital imaging program and print the two halves on your home computer. If you do this, select "fit to page". You'll get slight reduction in size, but keep in mind, these are 1" counters to begin with, so there is no problem with a slightly scaled down counter. The counters are outlined on each sheet to make them easy to cut. I hope this helps.

I'm a little disappointed in the way this was delivered. This is supposed to be a PnP but printing the components is made more difficult then it needs to be. While I would tolerate this for a free game - this is not a free game. We are paying for it. You guys are not new to this industry, I would have thought that the quality and ease to produce the game would improve! I cannot comment on the game itself as I'm still trying to figure out how to print the counters. Maybe provide the counters as PDF to ensure that they can be printed on standard label paper without resorting to using Photoshop to split the giant sheets.

I have 5 fellow PnP enthusiasts and each one of them uses the different process for printing counters. All of us going through rearranging counters before print in some or another way.
Most likely any possible way to provide counters will result in general unhappiness between PnP folks anyway. So why bother.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
