Try the Micro-Minis System for FREE!

Welcome to Micro Miniatures Basic Rules, an easy to learn and rules-light tabletop miniatures skirmish game. Micro-Minis is a rules-light miniatures gaming system intended to help new gamers more easily jump into the world of tabletop skirmish warfare.

The game is intended to be an inexpensive entry into gaming. Players can use any gaming figurines or miniatures they have on hand. The game only uses six-sided dice (referred to as D6 in these rules). Finally, gaming terrain and buildings aren’t necessary (but can add some neat flavor if you have them).

These bare-bones basic rules act as a great starting place for the system. It is intended as a completely open-ended game. Play with any miniature you want in any universe or genre you want. Mix up genres if you feel like. The point is to simply have fun.

This specific rulebook offers only the very base concepts and ideas for the game system.

It is also perfect for experienced gamers looking for an easy, fast, and fun beer and pretzels style game they can pull out on the fly without very much time to invest in setup and lengthy game times.

Later rulebooks will offer expanded rules and options as well as specific themes, genres, and unit types.

If you would like a physical edition of this book, you can pick up the combo BASIC and ADVANCED rulebook on Amazon.

The game is presented as free ("Try the Micro-Minis System for FREE!") but it's actually listed for one dollar... lol. I wanted to try it nevertheless and I was turned off by the fact that weaker units have an higher strenght, hence higher movement allowance.

Is it really as such, or I misinterpreted the rules? They are very counter-intuitive to me. Please help!

There are no official "bot" rules. However, I tested this game playing solo, simply controlling both sides.

My six year old has been asking for her own army for months but the games I play Are all way too complicated. I think She is going to love this though!

Stephen! I'm glad. When I originally came up with the rules a few years back, it was so I could play "miniatures" games using toys with my nephews and niece who loved it. Very kid friendly, in my experience. In fact, I found them coming up with all sorts of creative new armies and rules modifications. (Also, if it interests you, I just uploaded the advanced rules set as well for PWYW)

I do have a question though. Are size and manpower interchangeable? For example, if i use a large profile for a tank with size 3, would it roll 3 dice to defend and basically have 3 wounds?

Yes, that's absolutely right. Size is basically the exact same thing as Manpower. It just looks like I made a mistake and forgot to change the word "size" to "manpower" underneath a few of the stat blocks. Not sure how that one slipped by me. I'll need to change that. But in the end, if you were treating a Tank like it was a "Large" unit, you would roll 1 die for every miniature you had in the unit. So if you had 3 (max size for a Large Unit) minis in the unit, you'd roll 3 dice--one for each tank. I designed it with the idea you would remove one mini every time you took a hit. Minis sort of act like your Wounds themselves, so you don't have to keep track on a piece of paper. However, if you wanted to tweak the rules, you could have a tank acting on its own as if it represented 3 minis all together. Then it would have 3 wounds before it died. You'd just need to mark them with a token of some sort. Easy as that.

Do you "leap-frog" the ruler like in Song of Blades and Heroes when it comes to movement?

I've not played Song of Blades and Heros, so not 100% sure what you mean. However, I can say you always move to the end of the allowed movement in inches. Not within. So, if you placed the ruled next to the mini to measure, you would then move your mini all the way past the allowed movement space at the end of the ruler.

I'm still not understanding movement. It seems like movement is done in a way different from the typical method in war-gaming.

Picture the movement as a stick, place the stick against the base of the model and move the model the length of the stick and put the model at the end of the stick. So movement is total movement plus the base width of the model: O-----------O <--- like so.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
