Blitzkrieg Deluxe

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Blitzkrieg Deluxe is a "generic" World War 2 era wargame that pits two fictional nations against each other over a fictional land mass represented by a huge 34 by 55 inch map. The game is easy to learn with the rules clocking in at under sixeteen pages, but difficult to master as the options available to each player are numerous. Do you mass your assault at the enemy's borders, or do you employ naval forces to invade through a tenuous beachhead? How best to utilize your air forces to disrupt your enemy's economy and halt their advance into your territory?

In addition to the huge map that is presented in easy-to-print tiles at both letter- and tabloid-sizes, the game includes over 500 markers on four sheets, four setup cards, and a double-sided player's aid card containing all of the game charts for quick reference.

This game is a redesign of the original Blitzkrieg game published by The Avalon Hill Game Company in 1968. The project started initially as an effort to create a new, updated, and far more pleasing map on which to play the original game. This effort snowballed into creating an updated set of game pieces, including the addition of markers needed to indicate control and industrial conditions never included in the original publication. Of course, this also required the creation of new game charts to match. It wasn't too long before the rules were tackled as well.

While working through the rules and copious errata for the original game, it seemed appropriate to rewrite the rules as well. Given enhancements in game play since 1968, these rules have been completely overhauled and enhanced with new mechanics and combat result charts to inject more excitement than the original design. The "basic game" has been stripped out and the rules reorganized to follow the sequence of play. The concepts of "initiative" (allowing for the possibility of double-turns by a player) and "straining" (allowing an attacker to push harder to gain better results, but at a risk of losses) have been introduced. The game also includes a random game-end mechanic, allowing a side more or less time to complete its conquest. Additionally, the original combat results (attrition) chart has been completely redesigned to allow for more realistic outcomes.

In a nutshell, Blitzkrieg Deluxe is not your daddy's (or granddaddy's) Blitzkrieg! As a player you have the option to play the game with the original rules as written using the updated map and markers, or you can "upgrade" to the new rules.

Blitz on!

Posting here because I can (sometimes you get a guys attention the best way you can manage :) ).

Mike, I'm getting your Blitzkrieg file here, but I'm also using here to say thanks for your content for Combat Leader on your relative Range site as well. The counters are ok. And I liked your isomorphic map modification.

Question. I found you, while wandering trying to learn if Combat Leader was still being produced through Minden Games ie is any new nations in the works. Like the design enough to want more. Wondering though, how hard it would be to create new nation forces. It looks like a little Kentucky windage might be all that is needed.

Does this iteration include minor country forces? Is there any chance you could give us a sample of the map?

To clarify for non American/Canadian users the paper sizes quoted are similar to international sizes. A4/Letter, and A3/Tabloid. Quite confusing in UK, since a tabloid is a small newspaper, as opposed to a large newspaper or broadsheet.

I can print A4 and A3 on up to 270gsm/100lbs weight/thickness so can handle it. Being able to print without a border is desirable too.

I would like to suggest that a quick preview of a letter sized part of the map/sample counters of the map would enable prospective buyers a chance to judge the visuals

John,

I agree with your comments and have clarified the printing guidelines. With regards to the samples, I'm waiting on the activation of the game's BoardgameGeek site and will post lots of samples there.

Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
